Owen Pallett In Conflict

Four years ago Owen Pallett's Heartland was released and was considered one of his best albums yet. Pallett brings it in again for his fourth album, In Conflict. Just coming off of scoring the Spike Jonze' movie Her, Owen Pallett is holding nothing back with this new album. His sound is much more confident, and it shows when he goes out of his comfort zone in this record. Of course, the looping that he uses is what makes Pallett so talented, so expect some great jems on this record. Please go see him if he comes through your town this year. Octa#grape

Last month I saw Octa#grape. Listen to them, just do it. They were jumping around on stage and swinging their guitars around. When seeing a band play live, I always pay attention to the stage presence and chemistry between the members. Not because I'm trying to be analytical when seeing bands, but just because I like to see if they are having fun. Seriously, these guys have fun when they play. All of them had huge smiles on their faces while playing. You can tell that this band is playing because they just love playing live shows. They were even smiling when the singer's microphone went out and he had to lip sync one of the songs. It made me dig them ten times more. Eternal hair is really good listening. I put a link for the song down on the bottom. Look for Octa#grape because these guys don't do it for the fame. They're doing it because they love having fun.

Get relaxed with some Montalban Quintet

While looking through the merch table at a Systems Officer show -I will no doubt have a post about Systems Officer in the near future- there was an album laid out that I had not seen or heard of before. The album said, "From the founders of Systems officer present: Montalban Quintet." The band consists of drummer (Chris Prescott) and the guitar/bass player (Kenseth Thibideau.) Immediately, I thought it would be a no-brainer to buy this album. The album's horn arrangements, combined with the cello and percussion, create an album that is great to listen to, especially on headphones. Overall, there is a nice relaxing tone that overlaps through each song. It is definitely different than Systems Officer, but that is not in any way a bad thing. I guess you can categorize this band as "experimental jazz," but I would try not to define it that way. People should not try to define a band by their genre because so many bands out there have a sound that is so unique that classifying them under something like "Rock" or "Pop" just does not do them justice. I think I went on a weird thing there for a bit, sorry. Enough romance, Montalban Quintet's music is really good listening, so go out there and buy it!

Mc Chris is the biz!

Last month I was lucky enough to go see an Mc chris show, and boy was that night awesome. Very few musicians can get my arms moving but at the mc chris show, I just could not help it. This guy knows how to get the crowd moving. From batman to every star wars character ever, Mc chris sure knows how to make  nerdcore rap songs fun. Now you do not have to be labeled as a "nerd" to like his music. The beats are crisp and the lyrics are so catchy that literally ANYONE can get up and sing along! Give this guy a chance!!! Enough romance, Mc chris' new album Race Wars came out last month and it's super catchy (especially Popcorn Frog.) Go buy it!
